Un nuovo leader per la difesa: Dashon Goldson

Dopo una settimana di training camp, c'è un giocatore che ha letteralmente preso in mano il suo reparto diventandone leader e punto di riferimento: si tratta di Dashon Goldson, la safety arrivata nel corso dalla free agency dai San Francisco 49ers, con i quali il giocatore era arrivato ad un solo passo dalla conquista dell'ultimo Super Bowl perdendo in finale contro i Baltimore Ravens.

E' proprio coach Schiano, dalle colonne del Tampa Bay Tribune, a sottolineare l'importanza della nuova safety dei Bucs:
“I think Dashon Goldson has taken the group over, for sure," said Schiano.  "He’s the man back there, running the show, which is what we anticipated and hoped for."

L'arrivo di Goldson a Tampa nel corso della free agency era stato forse un po' "oscurato" da quello di una superstar del calibro di Darelle Revis, che ha catalizzato l'attenzione dei media, togliendo le luci della ribalta all'ex giocatore dei 49ers.

Ma in questi giorni, con Revis ancora alle prese con la riabilitazione dall'infortunio al ginocchio e costretto a partecipare al training camp in maniera limitata, è stato proprio Goldson a guidare il gruppo dei defensive backs, diventandone in breve il punto di riferimento.

Ecco il pensiero di Dashon, circa il suo ruolo da "leader" della difesa dei Bucs:
“I take that leadership role very seriously," said the former San Francisco 49er. "I understand that I’m here to definitely help the younger guys out and definitely win football games around here. [That's how] I approach this practice field, and definitely when we’re in the classroom [I need] to show these guys how to approach this game. With Revis being down, I’ve got to step up and play a bigger role and just help out as a leader with experience.”

Dei 16 defensive backs attualmente a roster, la metà ha al massimo tre anni (o meno) di esperienza tra i PRO... inevitabile dunque per i nuovi arrivi Revis e Goldson ricoprire il ruolo di "guida" e di "esempio" per i compagni più giovani:

"The young players have responded very well," said Goldson.  "I think these guys do a great job of taking coaching, not just from the coaching staff but from the leaders at the same time.  They're not prima donnas out here.  These guys just want to win and want to get better, and that's a good start."

Ma nonostante la giovane età di buona parte del roster, l'obiettivo per Goldson è uno solo, e speriamo che sia di buon auspicio: vincere!

“They already had a young football team," said Goldson.  "They had a lot of very good talent.  The coaching staff is very motivated, wants to win and I think that was a good showing to me. The mindset of this football team, especially since I’ve got here, the work has been good. Everybody puts in the work, nobody complains. They all want to win and that’s what I want to do.”
