OTA, parola a Jameis Winston

Proseguono a One Buc Place gli OTA, gli allenamenti - abbastanza "soft" - che precedono il training camp vero e proprio, che come al solito inizierà a fine luglio.

Nella giornata di giovedì il QB Jameis Winston è stato schierato con il secondo attacco, quello delle "riserve", mentre Mike Glennon ha guidato l'attacco "titolare", ma coach Lovie Smith ha fatto capire che si è trattato di un semplice episodio, niente di più che una normale rotazione tra i QB (e dunque affidando in pratica sin d'ora i gradi di titolare al rookie da FSU, cosa del resto già ampiamente nota sin dal giorno del draft).

Tratte dal sito ufficiale, ecco a questo proposito le parole di Lovie Smith:
"Jameis and everybody else have to earn their position," coach Lovie Smith said after Thursday's drills. "Jameis is getting his first-team reps. You guys are here on Thursday, and Wednesday he was with the first group then. Don't look too much into that. We just want the guys we think can play to get reps, and we want them to work with a lot of different combinations. Jameis is right on schedule. We're not disappointed or anything like that in him."

E Jameis Wisnston che cosa dice, circa il fatto di partire (o meno) da titolare? Ecco le parole della first pick overall, sempre da buccaneers.com:
“I’ve never been given anything in my life,” he said. “The way I was brought up, I always had to earn everything and the main thing is earning the respect of all these players out here.”

Preferisce dunque un "profilo basso", Jameis, ed evita di fare lo sbruffone o lo spaccone, probabilmente non essendocene bisogno, dal momento che tutti sappiamo bene che sarà proprio l'ex giocatore  di Florida State University il QB titolare di Tampa Bay nell'opener del 13 settembre contro i Titans.

In questi giorni comunque l'obiettivo principale di Winston è quello di apprendere il gioco offensivo portato a Tampa dal nuovo OC Dirk Koetter, un sistema con cui Jameis sembra già trovarsi a suo agio:  
“Preparing for this game is easier than preparing for a Harvard business degree but one thing about it is that I love it". - Winston said -. "So I’m going to do anything that I can to try to perfect this offense. This offense is amazing. The concepts are similar to the ones at Florida State but definitely the terminology – it’s crazy.”

Infine, inevitabili le domande da parte di giornalisti a Winston circa il fatto di essere stato schierato nella squadra delle "riserve", negli allenamenti di giovedì; ecco le risposte di Jameis:
"Being able to build a relationship with all the guys is important,” Winston said. “Just watching Mike (Glennon) and seeing the things he does – I’m trying to pick everything that he has because he’s been doing great and I look up to him. Everything he does is magnificent so I try to always compete. It’s always great to have a guy in front of you. It just helps you push yourself."
