Firmato il QB Rodgers per la practice squad

Il QB Jordan Rodgers

Accasatosi Josh Freeman a Minnesota, i Bucs hanno firmato a loro volta un QB, anche se solo - almeno per ora - per la "practice squad". Vedremo se sarà proprio il nuovo arrivato, Jordan Rodgers, ad occupare il posto nel roster dei 53 ancora a disposizione dopo il rilascio di Freeman.

Jordan Rodgers, 25 anni (coetaneo di Freeman) è un undrafted rookie con un trascorso universitario a Venderbilt. Fratello minore del celebre Aaron, fuoriclasse dei Green Bay Packers, Jordan Rodgers è stato firmato dopo il draft di quest'anno dai Jacksonville Jaguars, che lo hanno però rilasciato alla vigilia del training camp.

Tratte dal Tampa Bay Times, queste le parole di Greg Schiano a proposito di Rodgers:
"He fits in our building," coach Greg Schiano said. "He's a ball guy, he loves it. A grinder, likes to study, likes to be around football, likes to be around the locker room, and we're looking for as many of those guys as we can put in this building."

Inevitabile la sottolineatura su come, in casa Rodgers, ci sia già un QB di un certo livello...
"Good bloodlines, No. 1, right?" Schiano joked. "His brother has done some things in this league. But he's his own man. Since college, (GM) Mark (Dominik) and I have both had our eye on him. There's something about him. He's a competitor. He's not the biggest guy, he's just a fiery guy who's a baller."

Il ragazzo ha pienamente recuperato da un problema all'inguine, emerso durante un minicamp con i Jaguars e per risolvere il quale si è sottoposto ad un intervento chirurgico. Da segnalare come Rodgers e Glennon siano stati compagni di stanza, nel corso degli allenamenti svolti in vista del draft:
"I'm good friends with Mike. We were just talking, you wouldn't think when we were training together we'd end up on the same team," Rodgers said. "But it's a great situation. I love Mike. I'm behind him the whole way. He'll be helping me and I hope I'll be able to help him on gamedays."

Vedremo nei prossimi  giorni se sarà proprio Rodgers ad essere inserito a roster o se il posto lasciato libero da Freeman sarà occupato da qualche altro giocatore. Inutile ricordare, ad esempio, come la situazione a livello di TE sia al momento pressoché disperata, visto che ad oggi - a roster - di TE effettivo ce n'è soltanto uno, quel Tom Crabtree peraltro ancora alle prese con il ben noto problema alla caviglia che potrebbe limitarne non poco l'utilizzo domenica contro gli Eagles, ammesso che Crabtree possa finalmente fare il suo esordio in maglia Bucs...
