L'OC Sullivan: "Schiano? Mi ricorda Coughlin"

L'OC dei Bucs, Mike Sullivan

Parlavamo ieri della nuova "politica" introdotta da coach Schiano, e di come le regole imposte ed i comportamenti pretesi dal nuovo capo allenatore di Tampa Bay - massima severità e assoluto rispetto delle regole - fossero agli antipodi rispetto ai metodi (sin troppo blandi) del suo predecessore sulla sideline dei Bucs, Raheem Morris.

Il nuovo offensive coordinator dei Buccaneers, Mike Sullivan, parlando di coach Schiano, della sua mentalità e del suo metodo di lavoro, ha effettuato un paragone con un altro head coach famoso per il suo carattere da "sergente di ferro", ossia Tom Coughlin, con cui Sullivan ha lavorato (vincendo 2 Super Bowl) per parecchi anni ai New York Giants.

Il sito Joebucsfan.com riprende un'intervista radiofonica rilasciata da Mike Sullivan, e questo è il ritratto di Greg Schiano - sintetico quanto efficace - tracciato così dal neo OC dei Bucs:
“Coach Schiano is in many ways similar to Coach Coughlin, from the standpoint of very, very organized and detailed and things like discipline and structure and organization being at a premium,” Sullivan said. “I think he’s very bright. And I think he’s someone that has brought a concept of family.

E ancora, sul concetto di "famiglia" e sull'unità di intenti in casa Bucs, così Sullivan:
“You know everyone can say that word [family]. They can throw it around, they can be cliched, we all know there’s certainly the business side that goes along the lines with the NFL. But the thought that while we’re there, while we’re in the building, every member of that football team, all the coaches, having that type of common bond and that mindset, I think that there’s an amount of passion that he brings to the table that will make sure we’re do things the right way, in terms of how he wants it done and yet be open to feedback and suggestion on what’s the best possible way to get things done".

Mike Sullivan, prima di lavorare con Coughlin, ha trascorso parecchi anni presso Army e dunque si può ben dire che il nostro nuovo OC se ne intende - e non poco - di concetti quali "ordine" e "disciplina"... chiaramente questi requisiti non sono sufficienti per vincere una partita di football, ma senz'altro possono aiutare. E comunque, se ripensiamo un attimo soltanto all'anarchia assoluta ed al caos che regnavano a Tampa nel finale della scorsa stagione, ben vengano ordine, disciplina e rispetto delle regole. Magari non basteranno per vincere le partite, ma almeno ci consentiranno di salvare la faccia evitando quelle figuracce ignobili che nel 2011 erano diventate prassi abituale...
