Belichick: "Schiano farà bene a Tampa"

Si è svolto ieri, e proseguirà nella giornata di oggi, l'allenamento congiunto di Buccaneers e Patriots a One Buc Place, in vista del match di preseason che le due squadre giocheranno venerdì sera al Raymond James Stadium.

Non è un caso che questi due team abbiano deciso di allenarsi insieme, cosa abbastanza atipica e inusuale nell'attuale NFL. E' noto infatti il "feeling" tra i due HC, Belichick e Schiano, e - tra l'altro - se quest'ultimo è diventato l'HC di Tampa Bay forse lo deve in piccola parte proprio a Belichick, che spese parole positive per Schiano quando gli venne chiesto un parere sull'allora HC di Rutgers dal management di Tampa Bay.

Nella giornata di ieri, Belichick ha ribadito la sua stima per Schiano. Ecco le sue parole, dal sito ufficiale dei Bucs:
“I think the world of Greg. I think he’s a good coach. He’s got a good personality, he treats his players well, he’s smart, he’s tough. He did a great job with the Rutgers program without some of the opportunities that some other programs that he was going against had. But he competed really well in that conference and against those teams. I’ve always been impressed with the way his teams performed. I have no problem saying that at all.”

Inoltre, il figlio di Belichick ha studiato proprio a Rutgers, sebbene anziché al football abbia preferito dedicarsi al lacrosse (figlio degenere!) e comunque parecchi giocatori di Rutgers "cresciuti" sotto la guida di Schiano sono poi stati reclutati dalle squadre di Belichick, rimasto sempre favorevolmente impressionato dalla preparazione tecnica dei "prodotti" usciti da Rutgers University.

Parola ancora a Bill Belichick (a cui, come minimo, Schiano dovrà offrire una cena, dopo tutti questi complimenti!):
“I’ve known Coach for a long time, and gotten to know him better since he was at Rutgers,” said Belichick. “Of course, we would go down and scout their players and work them out, that type of thing. We both have a defensive background, so I think we have a lot in common there. He’s coached some of our players, going back to Vince [Wilfork] at Miami, guys like that. He’s come up to our practices and spoke to our team and observed us on the field, and vice versa. We’ve had a good relationship. I have a lot of respect for him and I think this is a great opportunity for him. I’m sure he’ll do well.”
