Il duro percorso di Brian Price

L'HC dei Bucs Greg Schiano e il DT Brian Price

Il DT Brian Price sarà regolarmente presente al Training Camp di Tampa Bay, che inizierà quest'oggi a One Buc Place e che segna l'avvio ufficiale della nuova stagione 2012.

Ma quella appena trascorsa non è stata certo una off-season serena, per l'ex giocatore di UCLA. Il quale non solo ha dovuto far fronte ai soliti problemi fisici che lo affliggono in pratica da quando è entrato in NFL, ma ha dovuto affrontare l'ennesimo dramma personale, ossia la perdita della sorella in un incidente automobilistico, dopo che già altri due fratelli erano morti - quando Brian era poco più di un ragazzo - in scontri a fuoco fra gang a Los Angeles.

Ma andiamo con ordine e parliamo della situazione fisica di Price. Il suo agente, dalle colonne del Tampa Tribune, pare finalmente ottimista sulle condizioni del DT #92: "Physically he's ready to go,'' Price's agent, Charles Price (no relation), said Tuesday from his Los Angeles office. "He's under 300 pounds, he's put in a lot of time and effort and he is in substantially better condition than he was when last year's training camp opened. He is still working through tremendous amounts of scar tissue that, when they bump up against the sciatic nerve, send sensations throughout the body,'' Charles Price said. "But I think everyone will be pleased with where he is. For at least another year, there are always going to be lingering issues from the procedures that he's had to have done. But the Bucs are going to be pleased with the way this kid looks when ne gets to camp.''

Psicologicamente, invece, nei mesi scorsi Price ha dovuto affrontare come detto la perdita della sorella, per lui in pratica una seconda madre, e la cui scomparsa ha costretto il giocatore dei Bucs ad alcuni giorni di ricovero in ospedale per cercare di riprendersi dal trauma. Ancora le parole del suo agente, a proposito dell'ennesimo dramma personale di Brian:
"No one has been struck by more bad luck and personal tragedy than this kid,'' Charles Price said of Brian, who grew up in the Crenshaw district of Los Angeles and lost two brothers to gang-related shootings before he was 15. "And Bridget was his bedrock. She was the one he leaned on after he lost his two brothers, and her loss was just too much for him. It was tragic in so many ways, not the least of which is the fact she was the mother of 7- and 9-year-old boys.''

Adesso Brian, che insieme alla moglie intende adottare i figli della sorella, è pronto a lasciarsi drammi personali e problemi fisici alle spalle e ad iniziare una nuova fase della sua vita e della sua carriera sportiva. ''He'll be stronger because of all of this, because that's the kind of guy he is,'' Charles Price said. "No matter what is thrown at him, he keeps on going. He never gives up.''
