"One thing about being a good leader is you have to have good followers
too," Winston said after being drafted. "I look forward to just getting
involved in everything and just serving everyone I can.”
"I talked to Lovie (Smith) way back a couple of months ago - Dungy said - and I know
they were going to research those two guys,'' Dungy said. "And I told
them about Marcus and the experience I had with him and they looked at
everything and were very thorough and got the guy they felt was the best
for their offense and their attack. I feel good about it because I know
how much they researched. I’m a Mariota guy because I saw him up close
for three years and I saw what he did in that program and I know him
personally. He’s the kind of kind of guy I would bet on. I was selfishly
hoping it would be Marcus but I think Jameis is going to do well and
I’ve talked to Marcus. I know he’s excited about going to Tennessee.''
"Out of him and Mariota, I like Winston
more," Evans said Tuesday when asked if he had a preference regarding
the quarterback the Bucs planned to take with the first overall pick in
the 2015 NFL draft. "(Winston) doesn’t run as much. He can sit in the
pocket and deliver the ball, and that’s more opportunities for the
receivers. I mean, Mariota can play ball as well. But I did my time with
a mobile quarterback. And it was fun. It got me more opportunities for
balls with the scramble rules and stuff like that. But in this league,
it’s tough to scramble. So I think Jameis will be fine."
