Ronde Barber: "Winston? Ha una mentalità vincente"

Chi segue le sorti dei Bucs sa bene chi sia Ronde Barber, leggendario defensive back che per ben 16 stagioni ha onorato nel migliore dei modi l'uniforme Red and Pewter.

Nel corso di un'intervista a CBS Radio, Ronde si è espresso in maniera lusinghiera a proposito di Jameis Winston, il giocatore più atteso in casa Tampa Bay.

Proprio in quanto ex cornerback, Ronde Barber è un grande esperto in materia di QB, ed è dunque interessante sentire la sua opinione a proposito della first pick overall dell'ultimo draft.

Secondo Barber, i Bucs hanno portato a Tampa un giocatore davvero di primissimo piano:
"He gives you the spectacular, but he also gives you the rookie. But what I will say about (Jameis) is he plays with zero fear. He'll let go of any ball. He has that confidence," Barber said on CBS Radio "I've played against guys that have supreme confidence in themselves and their ability to make plays. You can already see it. He has no fear letting the ball go."

Ronde ha poi fatto un paragone - che speriamo si riveli azzeccato - tra Winston ed EJ Manuel, deludente QB draftato qualche anno fa dai Buffalo Bills e predecessore di Winston a Florida State University:
"The guy that preceded him at Florida State, EJ Manuel, I did a couple of games of Buffalo over these two years that I've been working at FOX, and he is the other way. He's timid. He holds the ball. He's scared to deliver it when he needs to. This guy is the complete opposite, maybe to a detriment at times; he throws a lot of interceptions".

Secondo Ronde, Winston avrebbe - a differenza da Manuel - una mentalità vincente, da "gunslinger" (da 'pistolero', potremmo tradurre...), e tutte le qualità necessarie per sfondare tra i PRO:
"But he (Winston) has that "it," that bravado, that gunslinger mentality, if I could use that (tired) cliché, to be a great quarterback in this league. I think the good ones have that. Now how he learns to deal with that as a pro and take care of the football and do the right things on the football field? But he has the tools."

Speriamo sia così, e che il buon vecchio Barber abbia visto giusto nell'individuare in Jameis quel mix di talento, faccia tosta, mentalità vincente (o meglio, da 'gunslinger'), in grado di fargli recitare un ruolo da protagonista in NFL, magari anche grazie all'apporto di una batteria di WR e TE di tutto rispetto, da V. Jackson a Mike Evans passando per Tim Wright e ASJ.
